Geometric recently launched the 2014 version of its CAMWorks CNC program, noting that the addition of true G-code simulation makes it a complete CAD/CAM solution, integrated with initial part design functions and available for every step from writing CNC programs to full machine simulation. This functional flexibility, the developer emphasized, reduces data redundancy and saves production time on the shop floor. CAMWorks is a parametric, "solids-based" CNC software system ...
When using Toolpath or Step-Through simulation, to help review the toolpath effectively, the new release includes the ability to use a WIP (work in process) model as a start-up stock when simulating an operation or a setup. This provides the user with the ability to simulate subsequent setups and operations using an up-to-date WIP model, rather than the original stock.
Turn profiles are now fully associated with the model they are extracted from. This makes them fully associative to the sketches, making program changes quick and efficient, the company says. The solution also includes enhanced feature definition, to speed up selection of turn profiles by specifying the angle at which the profile has to be extracted.
Turn feature extents can now be controlled at the operation level, as well as at the feature level. Canned cycles have been provided with greater flexibility within the UI, making them more intelligent and providing the user additional control over the functionality and eliminating the need for any customizations to the post.
The solution has added 39 different APIs that can help reduce repetitive activities and provide a foundation for users who want to customize or automate their systems.
The Stock Manager UI is now available in SolidWorks Property Manager, and the UI for creating user defined tools, tool holders, and inserts has been improved. A new Preview Window has been added for ease-of-use.
CAMworks has also introduced an iPad app called CAMWorksView. This free app allows the users to view, review and annotate 3D WIP models and assemblies, tool paths and relevant operation data without the need of an additional CAMWorks license.
The solution now provides Mori-APT CL code for the DMG MORI SEIKI series of mill, turn, and mill-turn machines (NMV Series, NH(X) Series, NV(X) Series, NL(X) Series and NT Series machines). The APT-CL code from CAMWorks is certified to drive DMG MORI SEIKI machines using Manufacturing Suite Post Processor, eliminating the need for custom post-processors.
What's New in CAMWorks 2014 SP 1.0:
- Option to convert 3 Axis Finishing Toolpath to 5 Axis Toolpath - Dynamic Tool Preview in Machine Node - Override 4 th Axis Angle in Mill-Turn Setups - Selecting Point to Point Tools for ID Features in TechDB using expressions or constants - 64-bit Microsoft Access Support for TechDB - Introduction of TechDBForms_basic.mde (32-bit) for accessing TechDB - Introduction of new Sample Mill Machine for 5 Axis Machining - Automatic Selection of Proper Tools for Machining Mill Features - Post Variable DSPINDLE' now available for Mill operations in Mill-Turn
